Rug Liners

Currently, our rug liners are compatible with Epic Classic standard neck turnout rugs and Epic Classic stable rugs. Epic Essential rugs don't currently have liner compatibility, though we'll be introducing this for Epic Essential turnout rugs later this year — so watch this space. If you're buying a new rug and know you'll want to use the liner system, Epic Classic is the one to go for.

It depends on how much extra warmth you want to add. Our 50g liner takes the edge off on cooler days without adding too much — great for the transition between seasons. The 100g is a solid mid-season choice that works well through autumn and into winter. The 200g adds significant warmth and is best used during cold snaps or for clipped horses that need extra help. And the 300g is our heaviest liner, designed for the coldest conditions or horses that genuinely struggle to hold their body heat. The beauty of the system is that you can swap between weights as the weather changes, so you're never stuck with too much or too little warmth.

Yes — our rug liners are available in both Regular Fit and Broad Fit to match your outer rug. It's important to choose the same fit and size as your outer rug so everything works together correctly. Regular Fit liners are designed for light to medium builds like Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods, and lighter Cobs. Broad Fit liners are designed for medium+ to heavy horses — Traditional Cobs, Clydesdales, Suffolk Punches, Fell ponies, and more. Mixing fits and sizes will affect how the liner sits inside the rug, so always match them up.

Yes — and this is one of the things our customers love most about the liner system. Because the liner sits between your horse and the outer rug, it takes the brunt of the dirt and stable dust, keeping the lining of your turnout much cleaner for longer. And when the liner does need a wash, you can simply pop it in your washing machine at home. No trips to the equine laundry, no wrestling with a soaking wet heavyweight rug. Just a straightforward machine wash and you're done.

No — our liners are designed to sit neatly inside your Epic Classic rug without affecting the fit or causing the outer rug to pull, rub, or shift. They attach securely so they stay in place when your horse moves, rolls, or grazes, and they won't cause mane rubs or pressure points. The key is to make sure you're using the correct fit — Regular Fit liner inside a Regular Fit rug, and Broad Fit liner inside a Broad Fit rug.

In most cases, the liner system is the smarter choice. A single Epic Classic outer rug paired with a set of liners gives you far more flexibility than buying a separate rug for every temperature — and it works out more cost-effective over time too. You can dial the warmth up or down as the weather changes without touching your outer rug, and because the liner takes the dirt rather than the rug itself, your outer rug stays cleaner and lasts longer. The only time a heavier rug might make more sense is if you need maximum warmth and don't already have a compatible Epic Classic outer rug.
