Boots & Leg Wraps

Most of our boots are designed specifically for heavy horses and ponies with thick cannon bones, and feathered legs — including our travel boots, brushing boots, and rubber overreach boots. Standard boots simply aren't wide enough or deep enough for these builds, which is why we've developed sizes and shapes that actually fit. Our Carbon Overreach Boots and Fluorescent Leg Wraps are suitable for all horse types and are available in a range of sizes. Our travel boots are the only heavy horse travel boots on the market and are patent protected, designed specifically for draft breeds with thick cannon bones, and feathered legs. They provide 360° shockproof protection to the knees, hocks, fetlocks, feather, and coronet during transport, with a flared base to accommodate dinner-plate hooves and abundant feather. They come in four sizes — Draft 1 through Draft 4 — to suit horses and ponies from 13.2hh to 18hh+. Unlike standard travel boots that are too narrow or short for larger horses, ours are shaped specifically for the anatomy of heavy breeds so they stay in place without slipping, rubbing, or leaving gaps.

Both styles are designed for heavy horses with thick cannon bones and feathered legs, with the same broad fit shape, carbon microfibre leather construction, and ventilated neoprene lining. The difference is purely in the straps — our fluorescent brushing boots have high-visibility fluorescent straps for added road safety during low-light hacking. If you ride out on roads or in reduced visibility, the fluorescent version is worth choosing. If you mainly school or hack on off-road routes, the standard brushing boots do the same job without the hi-vis element.

Our rubber overreach boots are made from 5mm thick heavy-duty rubber and come in one size — 4XL — designed specifically for the dinner-plate hooves of Shires and Clydesdales. They're a robust, no-fuss option for turnout and training. Our Carbon Overreach Boots are made from shock absorbing neoprene with a carbon microfibre leather outer, and are available in four sizes from 2XL to 5XL — making them suitable for a wider range of horse types including medium to heavy builds. They're a more flexible, refined option with a curled lip for comfort and double-locking velcro straps for a secure fit. Worth noting that neither style is a no-turn boot, so both may spin during use — this is completely normal and doesn't affect their protective function.

Yes — our Fluorescent Leg Wraps are designed to fit thick cannon bones and feathered legs, with wide adjustable velcro straps and generous sizing to accommodate heavier builds. They're also suitable for all horse types, so if you have a mixed yard with lighter and heavier breeds, they'll work across the board. Available in M/L for horses up to 16hh and XL for 16.1hh+, with a waterproof breathable outer and 3M reflective strips for maximum visibility on roads and lanes.

Getting the fit right matters more than most people realise — a boot that's too tight can restrict circulation, and one that's too loose will twist or slip during work.

For brushing boots, the boot should cover the fetlock without extending beyond it, and the top should sit just below the knee. The fit should be snug but not tight — you should be able to slide one finger between the boot and the leg, but not much more. It's important the boots aren't too long, as this can interfere with the joints when your horse is moving.

For overreach boots, the boot is designed to protect the heel from overreaching injuries — that's the critical area of coverage. Because heavier breeds have differently shaped hooves, the boot won't cover the front of the hoof the way it would on a lighter breed with smaller hooves, and that's completely normal. What matters is that the back of the heel is fully covered and protected. Our overreach boots may spin during use — this is perfectly normal as they aren't no-turn boots, and it doesn't affect their protective function. There should also be approximately 1cm of clearance between the base of the boot and the ground at the back — this prevents the boot from repeatedly striking the floor during movement, which would cause bruising and discomfort for your horse.

If a boot is too tight, slipping, or leaving marks on the leg after use, it's not the right fit. Always use the size guides on individual product pages — our heavy horse boots are sized differently to standard horse boots, so don't assume your usual size applies.
