How to Measure Your Horse for the Best Rug Fit

Use a fabric tape measure or twine for precision.
Start at the center of the chest, where the rug would fasten.
Measure along the side of the body, following the curve of the shoulder, in a straight line to the furthest point of the hindquarters - not all the way to the tail. We recommend placing a broom behind your horse's hind and measuring to that point.
For the most accurate results, measure in centimeters and take the measurement 2-3 times.

Choose the Best Fit for Your Horse

Broad Fit – Perfect for medium+, heavy horses / ponies, and draft breeds with deep barrels, broad chests, and muscular builds.
Regular Fit – Designed for light - medium weight horses and ponies with a regular sized chest and neck.

With our exclusive size charts and deep-cut designs, you’ll find a rug that truly fits.

We always recommend trying an item on before use, especially when trying a different style. This is in case you need to return it for a smaller size, you are able to do so. If your horse is in-between sizes, we recommend opting for the bigger size, however, with horse rugs that have a back seam, they sit more contoured to the horse's body which can sometimes give a more generous fit. Some customers have found they can sometimes go down 1 size in rugs with a back seam when their horse is in-between sizes.

Product Description

The Essential 50g Stable Rug is perfect for mild days in the stable. Part of our budget-friendly Epic Essential range, this rug delivers our signature broad fit without compromising comfort or design.

Made with a breathable 210D outer and finished with a teflon coating, this rug helps keep your horse clean while offering light protection from chills. Inside, the antibacterial and anti static lining supports a healthy, glossy coat, ideal for maintaining condition during stable time.

Designed for heavy horses, the cut is broad and deep with extra space where it counts, across the chest, shoulders, and neck. It features our adjustable twin chest clips and low cross surcingles. Instead of leg straps, we’ve added a tail fillet string for simplicity.

Size Advice

Model: 19hh Thwaites Brewery Shire wearing a 7’3 Broad Fit and requires an Extra Large broad fit neck cover.

This rug is true to size, so we recommend choosing your horse’s usual size.

If your current rug fits well in length but feels tight across the chest, go for the same size in our rugs.
If you’ve had to size up in other brands to get chest room (but the rug ends up too long), try a size down in ours, they’re cut broader and deeper as standard.
