A cooler rug is a lightweight, breathable rug designed to help your horse dry off and regulate their temperature after exercise, bathing, or travelling. When a horse finishes work or gets wet, they need to cool down gradually without getting a chill — a cooler wicks moisture away from the coat and keeps the muscles warm while the body temperature comes back down naturally. Every horse owner benefits from having at least one cooler in their wardrobe, whatever the season.

Each one is designed for a slightly different job. The Sport Cooler is our most technical option — it has a dual fabric construction with a cotton-rich technical polyester upper for superior moisture wicking, and open-hole mesh sides to maximise airflow and cool your horse down quickly. It's designed for post-exercise recovery, but it's breathability also makes it a brilliant choice for travelling and stable use — the top section keeps the organs warm while the mesh sides allow air to circulate freely, helping regulate temperature without overheating. The Fleece Cooler is our versatile everyday choice, ideal after exercise or bathing in all seasons — lightweight, breathable, and brilliant at drawing moisture away from the coat. The Cotton Sheet is the lightest option, perfect for summer travel, a fly rug alternative, or stable use when you just need to protect the coat from dust without adding any warmth. And the Show Rug is a smart fleece rug with a single buckle fastening and a decorative Chinese knot at the hindquarters — designed to look stylish at ringside while keeping your horse warm between classes.

Any time your horse needs to dry off and cool down gradually — after exercise, after bathing, after a long journey, or on a cold day when they've been standing in the rain. Our Fleece Cooler is the only style in our cooler and travel rug range available in both Regular Fit and Broad Fit. All other styles — the Sport Cooler, Cotton Sheet, and Show Rug — are available in Broad Fit only. If your horse is a light to medium build like a Thoroughbred, Warmblood, or lighter Cob, the Fleece Cooler is the right choice. For medium+ to heavy horses — Shires, Clydesdales, Comtois, Suffolk Punches, and more — all styles are available in Broad Fit.

In cooler weather, our Fleece Cooler is fantastic for travelling — it keeps your horse warm and comfortable on the journey, and if they arrive a little unsettled or damp after the trip, it'll wick away any moisture while they settle. The Sport Cooler is a brilliant option in milder conditions thanks to its exceptional breathability — the open-hole mesh sides allow plenty of air to circulate, keeping your horse cool and comfortable without overheating. It's also ideal after competition, helping your horse cool down and dry off on the journey home. Our Cotton Sheet is the lightest option and works well for summer travel when you just need to protect the coat from dust without adding any warmth. And our Show Rug is perfect for ringside use between classes — smart, practical, and designed to keep your horse warm while looking the part.

A cooler should sit comfortably through the chest and shoulders without pulling tight or gaping, and should provide full coverage through the body. Your horse should be able to move freely without the rug slipping or shifting — if it's constantly moving out of place, the fit isn't right. Always choose the same fit as your other rugs — Regular Fit if your horse is a light to medium build, Broad Fit if they're medium+ to heavy.
