Always choose the lightest weight your horse is comfortable in — over-rugging in the stable is just as problematic as outdoors and can cause unnecessary stress. Our 50g is ideal for mild nights, well-insulated stables, or horses that run warm. The 100g is a great all-rounder for cooler weather and will keep many horses perfectly comfortable through a typical British winter in a decent stable. Our 200g is our medium weight, best saved for very cold nights, poorly insulated stables, or clipped horses that really feel the cold. Whether your horse is clipped, their age, condition, and the temperature of your stable will all affect how much warmth they need — so use these as a starting point rather than a strict rule.

Our Regular Fit and Broad Fit stable rugs aren't just the same rug in different sizes — they're designed for completely different horse shapes, with different patterns cut for each. Both ranges use the same size labels, but the actual measurements used to create each rug are different, because the proportions of a broader, heavier horse are genuinely different to those of a lighter, finer build. Our Regular Fit is designed for light to medium build horses — Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods, Irish Sports Horses, and lighter Cobs. Our Broad Fit is designed for medium+ to heavy horses with a broader chest, bigger shoulders, deeper barrel, and that classic apple-bottom — think Traditional Cobs, Shires, Irish Draughts, Iberian, and other draught breeds. If your horse has ever had a rug that rubs through the night or pulls tight across the shoulders, Broad Fit is almost certainly what you need.

Both ranges are made to the same fit and sizing, so whichever you choose, the rug will sit correctly on your horse. The difference is in the quality of the fabrics, hardware, and finishes — Epic Classic uses premium materials that you'll notice over time, particularly with heavy daily use. Epic Essential is our brilliant-value range that's genuinely better quality than a lot of what you'll find from bigger brands at a similar price point — it's a straightforward, well-made stable rug that does its job well. The other key difference is versatility: Epic Classic stable rugs are compatible with our detachable neck covers and rug liner system, so you can layer warmth and coverage as the seasons change without needing a different rug for every temperature. Epic Essential stable rugs don't have neck cover or liner attachments, so what you see is what you get — which for many horse owners is exactly what they need.
