When sweet itch season hits, every day without the right protection matters. Our Classic Sweet Itch Rug is designed to give your horse maximum coverage against biting insects and sun bleaching, without overheating — so your horse can enjoy turnout comfortably, even on the worst days.
Unlike off-the-shelf sizing, every rug in our Broad Fit range is developed using measurements taken from real broader, heavier horses — so the fit is precise, not guesswork. Our fit-first design gives your horse complete freedom of movement, with a larger cut neckline to accommodate a broader chest, thick muscular neck and big shoulders. Lower chest fastenings that follow your horse's natural shape, eliminating pressure at the neck and over the wither. Extra large shoulder gussets give your horse unrestricted comfort without tightness or rubbing. The fixed integrated neck cover, designed specifically for muscular necks and long manes, features ear holes and a chin strap for maximum coverage, with an extended length to match your horse's natural neck extension as they graze, preventing any gaps for biting insects to get in.
No more mini skirts! All of our rugs have the correct rug depth so your horse is fully covered and protected from the elements, including a substantial tail flap.

We've now fully switched to only Rugs from the big horse shop after two years of struggling to find suitable rugs for my Welsh D, who has big shoulders and needs a proper fit. These broad-fit rugs are perfect!

Excellent quality I terms of material and clips etc love the big tail flap. Fits Irish draught really well. Rugs proportions are well thought out. Love these broad fit rugs. I have been using them for years. Great for equines with large shoulders - they don’t have to be warmblood, cob or a heavy horse type as I have used them on the finer equines needing a generous neck fitting and depth in rug. No more rubs - hurray.
