Lightweight Turnout Rugs

A lightweight turnout rug contains a small amount of insulation, typically between 40g and 100g, while still providing full waterproof protection. They're designed for horses that need more warmth than a rain sheet provides without moving into a heavier winter rug.

40g and 50g turnout rugs provide a small increase in warmth over a no fill rug and are ideal for changing weather conditions. A 100g turnout rug offers additional insulation and is often used during cooler autumn weather and mild winter temperatures.

For some horses, yes. Horses that naturally run warm may comfortably wear a lightweight turnout rug throughout much of the winter. Clipped horses, older horses, and those that struggle to maintain condition may require additional warmth depending on the weather and their individual needs.

A neck cover can provide additional protection and warmth during wet, windy, or colder weather. Many horse owners choose to add a neck cover during autumn and winter to help keep the neck dry and reduce heat loss.
